"Chere Buru" is called in local language which means "Pakhipahar". Total area is a 600
by 800 ft. granite hill in the Matha Range part of Ajodhya hills in Purulia district of West
Bengal, India. The place is covered with thick vegetation and dense forests. According to
an eminent geologist Dr. D. R. Nandy, this bold rock is approximately 2.5 billion years old.
The local villagers are essentially tribal, mostly belonging to the Santhal community. The
place is popular for the 'Purulia Chau' one of the richest masked dance - drama in our
traditions.
